The Politics of Graphic Design - Poster Project
This project focused on the various socio-political issues within the graphic design industry. We were tasked with selecting a topic from ethics, diversity, equality, and inclusivity, and I chose ethics as my area of focus.
The project involved creating a set of posters and an Instagram story to highlight my chosen topic. Within the theme of ethics, I chose to explore the ethics of social media design.
I conducted research into the physical designed aspects of social media and found that there are numerous features that are solely put in place to increase retention times on the sites and apps, therefore leading to an increase of addiction to these platforms. Many of my findings were collated from the documentary into social media called “The Social Dilemma”.
Static Poster
This static poster highlights how designers should be aware of the mental impacts of their designs and provides statistics about teenager
screen usage.
Animated Poster
The animated poster design maintains a consistent house style and features an animation of a cable, shaped like a brain, plugging into the character's head. This visual reflects how our psychology is being 'rewired' by design decisions on social media.
